Maximally Minimal - Quinnuance
“…Quinnuance has turned the traditional concept of the concert upon its head. That is what the experience of new music is all about.” - The Straits Times
In the 1960s, a group of American composers decided to reinvent and simplify what the classical world considered music to be—the combination of rhythm and pitch that defines its structure and style.
They came to be known as minimalists, and their composition style was called minimalism.
Dismantling our perception of time through music, film, and the pared-down aesthetics of minimalism, four young composers set out to create music in a maximally minimal way, by using intricate harmonies and rhythmic patterns from simple notes and chords.
Each piece is conducted by Clarence Tan and performed by a talented pool of musicians, and accompanied by a film sequence.
